Design and Development

The design of the International 5.5 m Class is a complex undertaking. Thank's to a close cooperation with our designer Sebastien Schmidt and each respective client we are able to guarantee a 5.5m design that stands out of the crowd.

Use of high-tech design- and engineering software helps to solve the complex design puzzle. Also involvement of saildesigners contribute to the high performance package of hull, rig and sails.

 


Construction and Materials  

The construction of the 5.5m at Ch. Wilke Boatyard uses state-of-art materials and construction technology. Epoxy resins, Airex foam core materials and high modulus multidirectional glass fibers form the base of the construction. Combined with the application of vacuum and curing at elevated temperatures produces a high quality 5.5m hull. The use of special build female moulds minimizes laminate weight in the hull without compromizing strength and durability.
